Characteristics: Deciduous tree, fast growing, spherical cup. Average size. Of 6 to 10 m of height and of 4 to 6 m of diameter of glass. Leaves: perennial (deciduous with strong frost), similar to those of a fern, opposite, bipinnate, from 15 to 30cm. long, grayish green. The flowers gather in spikes and are blue or bluish purple. Flowering occurs in spring. There may be a second flowering in early fall. Fruits: Dark brown flat woody capsules. Fructification at the end of autumn, remains throughout the year.
Requirements: It is a tree resistant to urban conditions (pollution) so it is indicated as a tree of streets and parks. It requires a mild climate in which no frost occurs and where the temperature drop is sporadic, with weak frosts. Live better in the vicinity of the coast, although sheltered from strong sea winds. Places in full sun. It blooms abundantly in sunny exposure. Rustic in terms of soil type, although it prefers clay-sand soils that maintain humidity. It is resistant to limestone, but not to salt. It needs little maintenance.
