OLEA EUROPEA POM POM
Synonym: Olive
Characteristic of the Mediterranean Region, it belongs to the Oleaceae family. It is very resistant to wind and dry ground, so it does not require much maintenance. It is a tree that is pruned manually, forming a kind of "pom pom" in its branches over time.
Although it has a slow growth, it does not usually exceed 10m -15m in trunk height. On the other hand, it is a very long-lived tree with a high regeneration capacity. Its main characteristic is its thick and irregular trunk, reaching in some species to have a twisted appearance. Its leaves are green-grey perennial on the upper side and silvery below. The white flowers form clusters that appear in the axils of the leaves.
It blooms in mid-spring and at the end of autumn it bears fruit, olives, of different shapes and sizes depending on the species, which when processed are suitable for consumption or for the manufacture of olive oil.
